DeTeXt: Find LaTeX Symbols with Ease

DeTeXt is an iPhone application designed to make finding and using LaTeX symbols easier. Developed by Venkata Subrahmanyan Govindarajan, this free app falls under the Education & Reference category. DeTeXt provides two methods for locating the LaTeX command for a desired symbol.

The first method allows users to draw the symbol they want using Apple Pencil on an iPad. DeTeXt's neural image classification engine then identifies the 20 most likely LaTeX commands that will generate a symbol similar to the one drawn. This feature enables quick and intuitive symbol searching.

The second method involves searching through a comprehensive symbol set of 1098 symbols from packages like tipa, amsmath, amssymb, and textcomp, alongside the default mathematical symbols. This extensive database ensures that users can find the desired symbol, regardless of its complexity or origin.

DeTeXt's neural engine processes the drawn symbol or search query, finding the best matches within its symbol database. All this processing occurs on the user's device, eliminating the need for an internet connection. Furthermore, all symbols are stored within the app itself, ensuring accessibility even when offline.
